LAKE REPORT FOR AUGUST 8, 2018

(Kirksville, MO) — The Buckeye trees have started to change to their fall wardrobe. The brown grass around both lakes is an unspoken warning that the fire danger is very high! It is important to remember that open fires are not permitted at Hazel Creek Lake and open fires must be in an approved fire pit at Thousand Hills State Park.

Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 7:00 am is the earliest that waterfowl blind sites may be chosen at Hazel Creek Lake this year.   There are no designated blind sites but they must be constructed or placed so they are at least 300 yards from all other blinds.  Any conflicts for blind sites that cannot be resolved by the participants will be referred to the Lake, Parks and Recreation Commission.  The decoys cannot be placed in the water until Saturday September 1, 2018 and all blinds and decoys must be removed from the area by 5:00 pm April 27, 2019.

The water level in both lakes remains lower than usual, causing problems at all three boat ramps. The south boat ramp at Hazel Creek Lake is not functional for boats other than canoes and kayaks.  The north boat ramp at Hazel Creek Lake remains functional for boats under about 18 feet in length.  The East half of the boat ramp at Thousand Hills State Park is also not functional at this time.

The State of Missouri is finishing their plans to replace the sea wall, boat ramp and boat docks at Thousand Hills State Park. Construction will hopefully begin this fall.
