Dear SOU Students

SOU’s Information Technology Department is working to provide the resources you and your instructors need to adapt to the changing environment brought on by the current pandemic. 

Technology needs survey
We understand you may not have access to the technology you need to complete your coursework remotely. Please fill out the survey linked below if you need assistance with access to technology.

IT is working with others to address your needs, and there may be some limitations to our ability to fulfill all student needs.

Internet access
We are aware that not all of you will have access to reliable high-speed connections from the locations where you will be staying during the spring term.

Alternate locations

  • SOU is partnering with three other regional schools that participate in the Southern Oregon Higher Education Consortium (SOHEC) to provide you with additional access points around the area. The member schools are SOU, Rogue Community College, OIT (in Klamath Falls and Wilsonville) and Klamath Community College.
  • Oregon’s other public universities may also be able to provide you with wireless internet access. 
  • SOU is a member of the global eduroam network. Eduroam will allow you to access the wireless network at any participating university using your SOU login credentials.

Before trying to access resources at any other college or university, check their website to ensure that they are indeed open to the public.

Other options

If you take advantage of a commercial discount or offer, make sure that you understand the terms and conditions of the contract with the provider before signing up. 

SOU computing labs
At this time, SOU plans to make  computing labs available to SOU students. IT is working with Facilities Management and Planning to ensure that proper social-distancing and cleanliness measures are taken.

Please monitor your email and messaging closely, as physical access to buildings is subject to change.

Equipment for students in need
SOU’s IT department is working to provide equipment for students in need. We are requesting that any students with a need for some type of computing equipment fill out the Student Technology Needs Survey located at: .

Resources are limited and finite. IT will take your information from the survey and use it to identify those who would be the most dependent on loaned devices. We will likely not have enough to accommodate all requests, but we are doing what we can to source, secure and distribute resources fairly and equitably in a way that will assist students with their educational goals.

The Information Technology Department is committed to assisting all of you through this difficult time. Our staff will be providing support and assistance to the best of our abilities, and we will be making every effort to assist with the transition to remote delivery of instruction.
