IMPORTANT: our role in governor's order

Southern Oregon University , Public Updates

Dear students and employees,

Each of us have found our own ways to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Now is the time for us to take collective action.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown issued an executive order on Monday that directs us to “Stay Home. Save Lives.” It is important that we take a leadership role in complying with this and other executive orders and statewide guidance regarding COVID-19. It remains vital to our public health to stay home – whether that’s in one of our residence halls, in one of our local communities or in another state – and to consistently observe social distancing and other virus prevention guidelines.

I thank and appreciate all who are shifting our campus to remote delivery. We have a wonderful team of faculty, staff and students who came together quickly to respond in unprecedented ways. I also appreciate those of you whose jobs cannot be done remotely and are either coming to campus or taking temporary leave. We will soon provide clarity regarding guidelines and allowances for student employment.

Like many of you, I am already missing the personal interactions we enjoy on our campus. We will resume face-to-face operations and restore our in-person community at SOU, as soon as it’s safe to do so.

We can and will put this global crisis behind us, but only after we first confront it head-on. Our governor has offered guidelines that, if strictly observed, will help to slow and eventually turn the tide on this outbreak. Thank you for doing your part.

Yours in healthy practices,

Linda Schott
