IMPORTANT: remote work

Southern Oregon University , Public Updates

Dear administrative and classified employees,

Thank you for your responsiveness to my March 22 email and making the quick shift to performing jobs remotely, where feasible, during the two-week spring break. I know it required many adjustments.

It remains a top priority for the university to provide the resources and opportunities for each of you to remain well. You and your families will obviously benefit from your good health, and so will SOU. With that in our minds and in an effort to abide by Gov. Brown's "Stay Home. Save Lives" order, we must maintain our remote effort to minimize in-person interactions and strictly enforce social distancing measures.

  • If you are designated "essential," or those positions that support continuing on-campus services (examples include: incident response team members, critical administrative support functions, and those who work in residence halls and family housing, dining, plant operations and public safety), report to work as required.
  • If you are already telecommuting, continue doing so.
  • If you are not telecommuting but your job can be accomplished in that way, transition to telecommuting.
  • If your job cannot be done remotely, take leave as available.

All administrative and classified employees – other than those whose duties are considered essential – are strongly encouraged to telecommute until further notice and in consultation with supervisors.

Employees who have health or child-care concerns, and those whose positions cannot be remotely performed either fully or partially, should use leave. Please be reminded that there are new federal emergency paid sick leave options (FFCRA). More information about leaves, workplace and remote work options, and benefits can be found by visiting the Human Resources COVID-19 FAQsAnd please continue to check the university’s COVID-19 website daily for updated information.

The executive leadership team appreciates everyone's hard work and sacrifices as we navigate these difficult times together.
